The following images are my first installment of the progress of the cover for Jacara Zar #2:
Stages: 1, 2, 3, 4.
STAGE 1: I already have the layout or idea drafted on small index paper. All I have to do now is to redraw everything on bigger paper. Usually I draw on regular 11×17 inches boards. For my komiks, I draw everything on legal size vellum (8.5 inches x 13 inches). This is quite small but since I will be inking my own drawing, this will limit my time spend on a page.
This cover will be (hopefully) a gatefold, wrap-around. I still haven’t decided whether it will be a fully inked, or inked with watercolor, or fully painted. If everything looks tight and tough, then I might have it just inked and watercolored.
STAGE 2 & 3: I always do changes on the final layout. In these two stages I decided to remove the head with helmet of a character and his blade across the other side. The reason is to get the eyes away from it when it’s colored. Because it will be the brightest object you’ll see in front instead of the main character. So instead of the head I drew a hand pointing then removed the big blade.
I didn’t expect another character that will appear. To have the other side of the cover a purpose, I drew Queen Reena leading the rest of the soldiers.
STAGE 4: This stage is rough detailing, where I draw their outfit, weapons, and facial expressions before I erase everything with kneaded eraser. Note: kneaded eraser will not totally erase every pencil lines I drew on paper. So when I drew the final details I’ll still see my construction lines.
I’ll post the next progress soon. See you all on the next update!Comments Off | Print This Post
